adapting alien anarchy entries 2.1-excerpt37A

Entry 2.1, Day 14
My first slioght accomplishment. Lai finally got over here, and helped me assemble the magnifier. Or is it magnifyer, with a y? Hmm. English still sucks.
Excerpt from File 27C. Power magnifyer/magnifier. Source: Computer Drive 4-6.
magnifyer/magnifier- uses regular heat-plasmode source for power. Diffuses energy through water to result in 4x as much power when remassed. Usual energy is electricity, for better conduction.
Entry 2.2, day 15
Today, Lai and I have been preparing the first experiment test of the magnifyer/magnifier. (My hands hurt from typing human words.) The test is scheduled for tomorrow- or is it tommorrow? With two m's? (English is complicated.) Ah well. Tommorrow/tomorrow at 10:00 "Eastern Time", whatever that means. Why can't we use our original time measure of 14? All this 12-hour stuff gets confusing.
Excerpt from File 34B, Year 6 Textbook
The 14-hour clock used by most Alaxans is based lightly on the ancient Alexis Emprie solar count, with 504 days total each year, with 36 days each month. Based on the circular rotation of our planet's orbit, the seasons are as follows: Erauna-Lirpa is summer, Lehca-Ittama is autumn, Alegra-Simetra is winter, and Avrena-Naxala is spring.
Entry 3.1, day 16
First experimental failure. Half my lab is blown up. There was a release of plasmodes into the area where the lithium is used. As my... dear friend Laison Smith says, "Big boom!!"
Note to self: Secure plasmodes (and Laison) before testing.
Excerpt from Video-recording Device 37A, Test 1 of the magnifyer/magnifier
"Lai. Hand me those ice cubes," Melinda says.
"The plasmodes?" Lai asks.
"Yes, Laison, what other ice cubes do you see?"
"Err- the plasmodes?"
Melinda sighs. "Just get them."
Pulling on gloves, Lai rolls his eyes and fetches the plasmodes form a freezer. He hands them to Melinda, who is stretched out under a large mass of wires.
"Ouch!" Melinda hisses. "Coundn't you have gotten me a towel too? Those cubes are as cold as dry ice!" She struggles out form under the machine.
"Well, you're the one with armored scales," Lai mutters, picking up teh ice cubes.
"Yes, our armor is thicker than yours, but it still has nerve endings!!"
"Sorry," Lai grumbles, handing her a pair of gloves. Melinda pulls them on angrily, then crawls back under the machine.
"Plasmodes," she says.
"What?"
"Give me the plasmodes, Laison!!"
"Oh. Right." Lai hands the plasmodes to Melinda. After a moment, he walks around to inspect the newly extracted plasma tanks. He tosses the red plasma tanks from hand to hand, then unscrews the cap.
"Laison!!" Melinda yells.
Lai jumps. He tosses the container onto a shelf above the machine, then runs over to Melinda. "Ready?"
"Yes. Finally." Melinda sighs and walks over to one of her computers. She types in a few commands, then presses enter. There is a revving noise that grows louder and louder. Melinda cocks her head to the side, confused. There is a noise like a gunshot, then a fizzing noise. Melinda types madly into her computer, trying to shut it down. Lai reads the screen over her shoulder.
"Too late," she growls.
"What do you-" Lai begins, then the fuel tank explodes.
"Oh. Big boom!!" Lai says.
Melinda glares at him.
